Hurricane Harvey is tied with Hurricane Katrina as the costliest tropical cyclone on record. Harvey caused more than $180bn of damage — mainly from catastrophic flash flooding around Houston, Texas, where less than 20% of affected homes were covered by flood insurance. Harvey Housing Recovery Project was a charitable trust set up to raise funds and prepare compensation programmes for people impacted by Harvey.
Our pro-bono identity work for the trust included a visual identity and toolkit to attract donations and skilled and unskilled volunteers. The main idea was based around ‘rebuilding’ — not only properties, but also lives. We wanted the campaign/identity to have a sense of urgency and immediacy. So we took a raw, rough-and-ready approach, a visual nod to the devastation to inspire people (locally and nationally) to take action.
